69th annual Okeene Rattlesnake Roundup
Today through Sunday
Downtown Okeene
The annual event that brings together snake hunters and families for a weekend of train rides, snake hunts and a dance kicks off today during the Okeene Rattlesnake Roundup in downtown Okeene.
New this year, gunfighters from both Shawnee and Guthrie will perform Saturday and Sunday. Clint Osmus and the Bushmills perform at Saturday night’s dance at the hanger.
Today’s events include registration, vendor booths and the opening of the Den of Death, a circular pit filled with hundreds of rattlers.
A parade is 10 a.m. Saturday and train rides from Okeene to Southard start at 11:15 a.m. For information on the round-trip rail rides, call the Railroad Museum of Oklahoma at 233-3051. The most popular events are visits to snake-hunting grounds, Old Smokey, the Butcher Shop and and the Den of Death.
Other big weekend draws include the longest snake contest for professional and local snake hunters, rides at the carnival by Lewellen Amusements, food vendors and Diamondback Bull Riding is 8 p.m. Saturday at Okeene Rodeo Arena. A golf tournament also is slated Saturday, the Jim Bob & Big Willie Poker Run is Saturday and a horseshoe tournament is Sunday.

76th annual Tri-State Music Festival
through Saturday
Various venues in Enid
The 76th annual Tri-State Music Festival continues today and culminates with Saturday’s Grand Concert at 3 p.m. featuring the honor chorus, orchestra, show choir, band and jazz band under the direction of nationally-known conductors.
Today, competition and honor group rehearsals conclude by 7 p.m., and the Tri-State Dance begins at 8 at Cherokee Strip Conference Center. Saturday’s events include the parade at 10:30 a.m. and honor group rehearsals.
The Ottaway Carnival runs through 5 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot west of Mark Price Arena.
