POND CREEK — Maxine Iola Chaney Ingham Gritz, 96, of Pond Creek, OK, passed away at 6:39 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012, at her granddaughter’s home in Pflugerville, TX.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2012, in Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid. Arrangements are under direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Maxine was the first of three children born June 10, 1916, near Hunter, OK, to Roscoe C. and Agnes M. (Cogswell) Chaney.

She married Walter Glen Ingham of Hunter, OK, on October 25, 1934, in Enid, OK. To them were born three children, Dixie Lee Ingham Shelton, Gary Glenwood Ingham and Fredrick Conklin Ingham. Maxine and Glen were married until his death on June 30, 1959.

Maxine later married Carl Irwin “Pete” Gritz, who was the postmaster of Pond Creek, OK, on December 5, 1979. They remained married until his death on November 30, 1986.

Maxine owned and operated a Dairy Queen restaurant for 15 years in Enid, OK. She enjoyed decorating, sewing, making flower arrangements and keeping her home immaculate. She loved the simple pleasures in life of spending time with friends and family and was known for giving great hugs.

Although she suffered with dementia in her final years, she was an inspiration of grace and fortitude, living life fully to the very end.

She truly lived up to the meaning of her name, Little Big One, and leaves a legacy of kindness and acceptance of all people and circumstances without judgment.

Maxine is survived by her three children, her 10 grandchildren (Cynthia Lee Shelton, Heidi Dawn Shelton Oliver, Steve, Brad Scott, William Greg, Wesley Garrett, Terry Miller, Brian Miller, Fredrick Ingham Jr. and Bonnie Ingham Stewart) 12 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Agnes Chaney; sister, Bonnie Gritz; and brother Maurice Chaney.
