Kay Lynn Hood

ENID, Okla. — Funeral service for Kay Lynn Hood will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Aaron Wagner officiating. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home, Alva.

Kay Lynn Hood, daughter of the late William Alfred and Margaret Luella (Miller) Cook, was born Dec. 22, 1942, in Alva, Okla., and passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, in Alva, Okla., at the age of 70 years and 23 days.

Kay attended the Lutheran School in Alva and graduated from Alva High School with the Class of 1960.

On July 28, 1960, she was united in marriage to Donald Lee Hood in Alva, Okla.

She received her bachelor’s degree from OCLA in 1970, and earned her master of environmental science from Oklahoma University in 1972.

She taught school at Cement High School, Rush Springs High School, Chickasha Middle School and Chickasha High School for a total of 30 years, retiring in 2003.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church, where she was a member before moving away in 1966. She then became a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church in Chickasha from 1973 until she moved back to Alva in 2003, at which time she rejoined the Zion Lutheran Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don; and one son, Christopher Hood.

Kay is survived by two sons, Randall Hood and fiancé Barbara Startz of Broken Arrow, and Michael Hood and wife Brenda of Alva; one daughter-in-law, Amy Hood of Keller, Texas; six grandchildren, Bryce and Kale Hood of Charlotte, N.C, Davis and Heather Hood of Tulsa; and Jake and Matt Hood of Keller, Texas; and other relatives and friends.

     De was born June 2, 1926, in Medford, the son of George Alexander and Myrtle Biby Hamilton. De graduated from Gore High School. He entered the U.S. Navy on July 3, 1944 and was discharged on June 13, 1946. After De returned to Medford, he and Emma Jean Carrier were married on Sept. 29, 1946, in Nash. De worked as a butcher and retired in 1989. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Medford and was ordained as a Deacon in 1951.
