Published 10-6-13

ENID, OK — David Dana Ostrom was born April 27, 1988, and passed away September 27, 2013, after a hard-fought battle with adrenocortical carcinoma. He peacefully passed away on a flight home with his wife beside him.

David graduated from Mission Viejo High School in 2006. He was a member of baseball and water polo teams. His senior year he was awarded MVP of the South-Coast League for water polo. He was an honor student and member of Model United Nations.

David went to college at United States Air Force Academy, where he played water polo. He was named MVP his junior year. His senior year he was an honorable mention and remains one of the top-five, all-time leaders in career saves at USAF.

In 2011, David was stationed at Vance Air Force, in Enid, OK, where he began pilot training. In 2012, he received his wings.

David met Whitney Moore, in Stillwater, OK, and they were later married in Omaha, NE, where Dave was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base. He was scheduled to begin training for RC-135s. His training was postponed due to illness.

David is survived by his wife, Whitney; parents, Dana and Laura Ostrom of Mission Viejo; sister, Kristan Ostrom of San Diego; grandparents Russell and Betty Ostrom; grandparents, Tom and Anna Craver; uncles and aunts, Mike and Kate Joyce, Paul Ostrom, Steve and Heather Ostrom, and Tom and Laurie Craver; cousins, Bri and Cody Craver, Kyle Krainock, Audrey, Marlee, and Jerry Ostrom; father and mother-in-law, Danny and Shelli Moore of Enid, OK; and last, but definitely not least, his faithful four-legged friend, Sophie.

David lived life to its fullest. Through David’s battle with ACC, he remained energetic and positive. His personality was contagious, and he was big-hearted. David would light up a room with his outlandish outfits and his beautiful smile. He had a love for making music and snowboarding. He was a man of passion and integrity.

Memorials may be made to Fisher House at David Grant Medical Center (www.Fisherhouse.org) or to Air Force Academy Pride-Water Polo in name of David Ostrom (attn: Jeff Heindmous, 1017 Tari Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80921).
