Ivan Peck

Published 8-19-13

ENID, OK — Ivan Peck was born July 2, 1936 in Hunter, Oklahoma, to Mabel and Jim Peck and passed to heaven August 16, 2013, two days before his 57th wedding anniversary. He married Rita Miller August 18, 1956, in Hunter United Methodist Church.

Ivan started farming with his dad in 1955. He enrolled at Oklahoma State Tech, Okmulgee, in diesel mechanics and graduated as one of the top 15 students in 1958. He then enrolled at Oklahoma State, Stillwater, in diesel technology, graduated in 1960 and went to work for Serve-aire at Vance Air Force Base as a heavy machinery mechanic.

Several years later, he went back to school and received a bachelor’s degree in trade and industrial education and was hired as diesel instructor when O.T. Autry Vo-Tech started in Enid. He continued his education and received his master’s degree in 1971. In 1976, he was asked to be a member of a group to represent Oklahoma in writing a book on diesel curriculum development. He would receive calls from northern Oklahoma farmers about their diesel tractors problems.

In 1988, he was called to temporarily fill in as diesel instructor at Indian-Meridian Vo-Tech, Stillwater.

Ivan loved the land and taking care of it in conservation, so after 15 years of teaching, he decided to stay home, and the whole family went into full-time farming after acquiring more land. He also enjoyed serving several years on the soil conservation board.

In 1990, he joined Volunteers in Mission through Oklahoma Methodist Church and fulfilled his passion for the love of people and children by repairing churches and building cement block homes for those in need. He served in this capacity eight to 10 days a year from 1990 to 2010 and operated in seven different countries.

Survivors include his wife Rita of the home; sons Max Peck and wife Linda and Gary Peck and wife Tracy, all of Hunter; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie Pratt, Blackwell, and Anna Mae Jones, Duncan.

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; his youngest son, Randy Peck; one sister, Louise; and one brother, Lawrence.

In lieu of flowers, make memorials to Volunteers in Missions in care of the church or Wilson Funeral Home.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at Hunter United Methodist Church. The Rev. Larry Acton will officiate. Burial will follow in White Cemetery in Hunter. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek.
