ENID, OK — Mass of Christian Burial for Richard Bryant Highfill, 86, of Enid, will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 28, 2013, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. The Rev. Rajesh Mankena and the Rev. Joseph Irwin will be celebrants.

Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Cherokee Cemetery with military honors by U.S. Army Honor Guard.  Recitation of Rosary will be 5 p.m. Sunday at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.

Richard was born June 18, 1927, to Charley Ellsworth and Lillie Clara (Pfeiffer) Highfill, in Carmen, and died October 24, 2013, in Enid.

He attended schools in the Cherokee area and graduated from high school at Lambert in 1945.

Richard served in WWII from 1945-1946 and the Korean War from 1950-1953 with the 45th Infantry Division Artillery as a truck and track mechanic.

After his discharge, he worked nine years for Clark and Broce Construction in Woodward.

Richard married Rachel Alice Stottmann November 26, 1955, at Quinlin Catholic Church. They made their home on a farm southeast of Cherokee, and to this union six children were born.

Richard farmed for 32 years, worked on road construction, at Helena State School and Alfalfa County, retiring in July 1989. Richard and Rachel moved to Enid in 1986.

He was a member of VFW Post No. 2270 and Knights of Columbus No. 1044. Richard loved working in his garden and yard, tending to his wife’s flower beds.

Richard is survived by his wife, Rachel of the home; five children, Charles, David and Lillian, all of Enid,  John and wife Denise of Selma, North Carolina, and George and wife Debbie of Cherokee; five grandchildren, Christopher, Stephanie, Hether, Ashly and Hally.  

He was preceded in death by son Richard E.; parents; three brothers; and one sister.
