ENID, Okla. —
A memorial service celebrating the life of Clara Mae Chaffin, 93, of Enid, Okla., will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mathew Thoms of Calvary Chapel officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. Cremation and services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
She was born May 22, 1920, in Foss, Okla., to George and Ruie “Stubblefield” Black and passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, in Enid.
She was raised on a farm outside Oakwood, Okla., and graduated from Oakwood High School in 1937, and then attended business college.
She worked as a telephone operator, a riveter for Beech Air Craft before becoming a hospital ward clerk.
She married Earl L. Wanzer July 24, 1940, in Watonga, Okla.
She is survived by three daughters, Frances Tappan of Burkburnett, Texas, Myrna Best of Fort Worth, Texas, and Sherry Wanzer of Enid; son, Joe Wanzer of Enid; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Amarillo Boy’s Ranch with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.
