Grace Eleanor Hula, 89, passed from this life on Oct. 10, 2012, at Sumner County Hospital in Caldwell, Kan. Grace Eleanor was born on Oct. 21, 1922, to George W. and Matilda M. Thomas in Enid, Okla. She graduated from Medford High School. Grace married Otto Hula on Aug. 10, 1941, in Enid, Okla. They began their married life on a farm north of Medford. They then moved to a farm southeast of Medford where she resided until her death. She is a member of First Christian Church, and for several years ,was involved in the Miriam Circle. She enjoyed her time she spent with her neighbors and friends in the Rural Progressive Club. She is a member of the WFLA Lodge. She loved to sew, and made many dresses for daughters and granddaughters. She always enjoyed being in the kitchen and having dinner and supper for whoever would be at the table. Grace loved being involved in all aspects of the lives of her children and grandchildren. Grace was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Richard Thomas of Medford and Arthur Thomas of Caldwell, Kan.
She is survived by her husband, Otto, and her three children Roland and Jo Hula, Medford; Allen and Marilyn DeLay, Mt. Vernon, Mo.; and Gary and Melissa Hula, Enid. Grandchildren include Karla Hula, Choctaw, Okla.; Alyssa Hula, Medford; Brad DeLay and wife Cathy, Mt. Vernon, Mo.; Jason DeLay and wife Rebecca, Mt. Vernon, Mo.; Melissa Billings and husband Chris, Gardner, Kan.; Austin and Macy Hula, Enid. Great-grandchildren include Adam and Drew Bradshaw, Heather Rice and husband Zach, Christopher DeLay, Abby and Jenna DeLay, and Cole and Caeley Billings.
Grace’s celebration of life will be held at the First Christian Church in Medford on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Craig VanDeburgh officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Medford. Family visitation will be held at Medford First Christian Church, 123 West Pawnee, beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m. with family present 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday.
