ENID, Okla. — Funeral service for Judith A. Smetana, of Medford, will be 10 a.m. today, March 19, 2013, at First Christian Church, Medford. The Rev. Craig VanDeburgh will officiate. Burial will follow in Rosemound Cemetery, Medford. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Medford. Memories may be shared at www.lanmanmemorials.com.

Judith was born at her grandparents’ home in Cherryvale, Kan., on Oct. 4, 1941, to Alvin and Marjorie Wages.

The family later moved to Coffeyville, Kan., where Judith attended grade school. In 1954, the family moved to Medford, where she attended high school.

She married Robert L. Smetana on Nov. 22, 1958.

In 1962, they moved from Wichita, Kan., to the Smetana family homestead that Robert’s grandparents had claimed during the Cherokee Strip Land Run in September 1893. Judith then worked as a helping farmer housewife with her husband, Robert.

She served as mother advisor for the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls in Medford.

Judith was a CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) and a CMA (Certified Medication Aide) and worked for the Community Health Center in Wakita, Okla., for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Robert of the home. Judith is also survived by three children, Debra Witt and husband Steve of Salina, Kan., Wayne Smetana of Wakefield, Kan., and Tim Smetana and wife Lori of Spokane, Wash. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother and three sisters, Sharon Jordan and husband Don of San Antonio, Texas, Kenneth Wages and wife Cherie of Medford, Juanita Hammer of Lockhart, Texas, and Chris Harmon and husband Butch of Enid, Okla.

Judith was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Marjorie Wages; two brothers, James L. Wages and Alvin Wages; and one sister, Karen Cook. She was also preceded in death by two beloved great-granddaughters, Madison Witt and Briella Farrar.

Memorials may be given to First Christian Church of Medford through the funeral home.

     De was born June 2, 1926, in Medford, the son of George Alexander and Myrtle Biby Hamilton. De graduated from Gore High School. He entered the U.S. Navy on July 3, 1944 and was discharged on June 13, 1946. After De returned to Medford, he and Emma Jean Carrier were married on Sept. 29, 1946, in Nash. De worked as a butcher and retired in 1989. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Medford and was ordained as a Deacon in 1951.
