Henrietta “Sue” Martens Calvert

Published 1-27-13

TYLER, TX — Henrietta “Sue” Martens Calvert, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed from this world in Tyler, Texas, to meet her Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013.

She was born Nov. 10, 1930, in Major County, Okla., to Henry and Elizabeth Martens.

On Dec. 3, 1949, James Everett Calvert swept Henrietta away in a 1947 Oldsmobile convertible and $30. They were married at the closest marriage parlor across the bridge from Kentucky into Indiana. They lived in Frankfort, Ky., for a few years before moving to Enid, Okla., where she was employed at Vance Air Force Base.

Upon retirement, she moved to Tyler and made her permanent home there with her husband. Her favorite interests were gathering family together and fellowshipping at New Beginning Church, Edom. Her bags were always packed as she waited on her next trip to visit family and friends.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, James Calvert; a son, Charles Ray Calvert of Edmond, Okla.; two daughters, Jacquelyn Gay Colburn of Monument, Colo., and Chaplain Jerrilyn Kay Calvert of San Diego, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Jason Veit of Divide, Colo., Jamie Reitenour of Vicksburg, Mich., Charity Harris of Three Rivers, Mich., Josh Calvert of Bartlesville, Okla., Chris Michael of Colorado Springs, Colo., Nathan Calvert of Stillwater, Okla., and Andrew Calvert of Edmond, Okla.; six great-grandchildren, Luke Harris (5), Aubrey Harris (3), Joshua Reitenour (2), Carver Harris (19 months), Caleb Reitenour (8 months), and Hosanna Harris (3) months, with number seven to arrive in April 2013.

Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and four sisters.

Cremation was supervised by Boren-Conner Funeral Home, Tyler, Texas. A memorial service, planned by the family for spring, is pending.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or The Dementia Care Foundation.
