Dorothy May Whiteneck

CARTHAGE, MO — Dorothy May Whiteneck, 88, of Carthage, Mo., departed life on Monday, April 28, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Oct. 12, 1925, in Enid, Okla., to the late William McKinley Jenison and Susie Honor (Crabbs) Jenison.

She graduated from Talequah High School in Talequah, Okla.

She was united in marriage to Elden Troy Whiteneck Sr. on Nov. 9, 1947. Together they shared 64 years until his passing on May 28, 2012.

Shortly after they were married, they made their home on a farm near Miller, Mo., and started their family. In 1958, they moved to Woodward, Okla., where they owned and operated Hampton Whiteneck Plumbing. Dorothy did the bookkeeping for their family business. In 1971, the family moved to rural Sarcoxie, Mo., where they farmed and ran the plumbing business out of their home.

She loved being on the family farm and took great pride in her gardening and canning. She also enjoyed sewing, crafts, rug making, fishing, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved visiting and reminiscing with her family and friends.

She was a member of the former Church of the Brethren in Carthage, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings.

Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Donna Anderson and husband Gordon of Carthage, Mo.; son, Elden Troy Whiteneck II and wife Susan of Baytown, Texas; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Jimmy Jenison; a sister, Carolyn Lauderdale; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral service for Dorothy will be 2 p.m. today, May 2, 2014, at Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home of Sarcoxie, Mo., with Bud Clapp officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Red Oak Cemetery, Red Oak, Mo. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home, Sarcoxie, Mo.
