ENID, Okla. —
Harry H. Haigler Jr., better known as “Junior,” was born Dec. 8, 1917, 3⁄4 miles west of Carlton, Okla., to Harry H. Haigler Sr. and Myrtle Imogene Hollowell.
He graduated from Canton High School in 1937.
Harry married Theresa Buchanan, the daughter of Dr. Frank and Carrie Hess Buchanan, on June 4, 1938. They lived in a small house in Carlton until 1940, when they moved to their present home site 1⁄4-mile west of Carlton. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1988.
Harry worked on the construction phase of Canton Dam and Lake. Although farming and raising cattle were his main occupation throughout life, he also worked at several other jobs. In the early 1950s, he was the “ginner” at the Carlton Cotton Gin. He also helped build the co-op in Okeene, and then the Canton Grain Elevator in Canton, now known as Wheeler Brothers. He also worked a few years at the Gypsum Plant at Southard.
Survivors include a son, Robert “Bob” Haigler and wife Shirley; son-in-law, Darel Elmore; grandchildren, Dawn Webb and husband Shane, Kimberly Owens and Mark Haigler; son-in-law, Roger Owens, Lori Elmore and Jill Driever. In addition to his grandchildren, Harry has 11 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa; daughter, Karen Elmore; and sister, Jeanne Abshire.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Canton Christian Church, with Steve Driskill officiating. Interment will follow in Canton Cemetery under the direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton.
