Karen Alicia Hampton

Published 4-25-13

ENID, Okla. — Memorial service for Karen Alicia Hampton, 54, of Enid, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Steven Samples officiating. Graveside service will follow in Paradise Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Karen was born Oct. 7, 1958, to Audie “Red” and Elsie P. Hampton in Alamogordo, N.M., and was called home to Heaven on Monday, April 15, 2013, in Enid, Okla.

Karen grew up in Tularosa, N.M., and graduated from Tularosa High School in 1976.

After graduating, Karen married David Alexander. They lived in various places while he served in the Air Force. Their daughters, Jenni and Kathey, were born while they were stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

They moved to the states in 1985, and lived in Victorville, Calif.

Karen moved with her daughters to Enid, Okla., in 1986, to be near her family.

Karen made a lasting impression on anyone she met. She was a wonderful baker, and anyone who ever tasted her cookies raved about them. She was a very generous and selfless woman with a big heart, who gave much more than she ever took. She was always doing for others. Karen could many times be found baking any number of treats for fundraisers, grandkids, birthdays, or any occasion. Sometimes, she would just show up at your door with cookies just to make you smile. She had a wonderful sense of humor and could lighten up any mood.

She was “Granny” to her nine grandchildren that she adored. She was very proud and loved to brag about them. They loved spending time with her and will forever cherish her memory.

She enjoyed camping with her family, cook-outs, shopping, rose gardening, listening to her favorite music, and watching Oklahoma City Thunder basketball games. She never missed a game and had just recently attended her first live game. Karen had a Thunder T-shirt for every day of the week.

She had devoted her life to the three disabled ladies she cared for as their home supervisor at ResCare. She considered them family and treated them as such.

Karen was a mom, Granny, a sister, an aunt, a friend, and a mentor. She is and will always be loved, cherished, missed and forever in the hearts and minds of her family and friends.

Although Karen’s time on her earthly home was short, she lived a full life, full of love and laughter. Karen was never afraid to be herself, and you could count on her to give you an honest opinion. Karen was lucky enough to spend time traveling, which she enjoyed immensely. Karen’s family and friends will forever be blessed for having known her and their lives will be forever enriched from her influence.

She is survived by daughters, Jenni and Kathey Alexander; her grandchildren, Halie, Karma, Karissa, Julia, Aidan, Allie, Lily, Steven and Layah, all of Enid; her siblings, Lita Glenn of Enid, Christine Grubb of La Luz, N.M., Kevin Hampton of Enid, and Jennifer Hampton of Helena, Okla; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents, Audie “Red” and Elsie Hampton; her brother, Russell Hampton; and her grandparents.

Memorials can be given to Special Olympics, with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.

Condolences can be given online at Brown-Cummings.com.
