Longtime Enid resident, Bessie Loretta Gregg, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, in Houston, Texas. She was 91.
Bessie was born Sept. 27, 1921, near Carrier, Okla., the youngest of 13 children to Jacob and Mary Prochaska, both immigrants to Oklahoma from the eastern European country of Czechoslovakia.
She attended Banner School and with the outset of World War II, moved to Enid and went to work for the George E. Failing Co.
Following the war, Bessie met Wendell Felix Gregg. The couple were married on Jan. 29, 1950, and had one child, Tim.
Bessie worked for many years at Marquise Studio and enjoyed gardening and spending time with family. She was widowed in 2003, after 53 years of marriage to Felix and moved to Houston in 2005 to live with Tim.
In addition to her son, Bessie is survived by two sisters-in-law, Mo Anderson of Edmond, and Gay Gregg of Webster, Texas. She also is survived by a brother-in-law, Richard Anderson, also of Edmond. Among those who will miss her are a number of nephews and nieces in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Oregon, Washington and Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents and all 12 of her brothers and sisters.
Those who knew her are asked to remember Bessie in prayer and enjoy the memories of their time spent with her in life. She truly was an extraordinary daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and friend.
