Published 4-28-13

ENID — Graveside service for David Scott Hicks, 51-year-old Enid resident, will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, at Memorial Park Cemetery Garden Chapel, under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Chaplain Don Ailsworth will officiate.

David Scott Hicks, 51, of Enid, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.

David was born July 17, 1961, in Enid to Willis and Elsie (Haley) Hicks, the youngest of five children.

He attended school at North Enid Elementary and Chisholm High School, graduating in 1979. David also attended Phillips University before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1983. He served at duty stations in South Carolina, Alaska and Korea and various locations in the Middle East in support of operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

During his military career, he received numerous awards and commendations for outstanding service and devotion to duty, no doubt influencing his subordinate’s development. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1992.

David met and married his devoted wife, Lynda K. Watson, in Enid in 1990.

Following his Air Force career, David worked at Vance AFB in Enid and Cessna Aircraft Corp in Wichita, Kan., returning to Enid to be closer to family.

Even after his diagnosis in 2008, he continued to be a devoted employee of the city of Enid.

Although David was a private person, he touched many people throughout his life. Early on, he was a friend, mentor, and favorite uncle to his sister’s children, Mike, Pat and Lori Devers and TJ Toney. David truly excelled in his roles as son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. His even temper, quick wit and humor made everyone around him feel at ease and comfortable. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him.

David leaves behind his loving wife of 23 years, Lynda of the home; son, Dennis Watson of Ithaca, N.Y.; daughter, Miranda Taylor and granddaughter, Cadince L. Taylor of Las Vegas; mother, Elsie Hicks; sister, Sharon Pratt; and brothers, Jerry, Ricky and Randy Hicks, all of Enid; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willis Hicks.
