ENID — Mass of Christian burial for Joan L. Whiting, 73, of Enid, Okla., will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with Rev. R.K. Mankena officiating. A second service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Mission, S.D. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Mission, S.D. Local arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Joan was born Sept. 5, 1939, in Mission, S.D., to John and Alice Kirbel Hamling and passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Greenbrier Skilled Nursing Center.

She grew up and attended Misson High School, graduating in 1956.

She married Richard Whiting June 28, 1956. He passed away Feb. 28, 1998.

Joan worked for a grocery store and Todd County in Mission, S.D.

Joan moved to Enid in 1998, where she worked for Family Dollar and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Joan is survived by her sons, Randy Whiting and Preston Whiting, both of Enid, and Matt Whiting of Salt Lake City, Utah; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Ray Hamling; and a sister, Donna Mae Fernen, both of Seattle, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Rick Whiting, and a sister, Darlene Brie.

     De was born June 2, 1926, in Medford, the son of George Alexander and Myrtle Biby Hamilton. De graduated from Gore High School. He entered the U.S. Navy on July 3, 1944 and was discharged on June 13, 1946. After De returned to Medford, he and Emma Jean Carrier were married on Sept. 29, 1946, in Nash. De worked as a butcher and retired in 1989. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Medford and was ordained as a Deacon in 1951.
