Delbert George Smith

ENID, Okla. — Celebration of life service for Delbert George Smith, 74, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at First Christian Church of Nash, with Pastors Bill Springer and Alvin Dalton officiating.

Military rites will be conducted by the United States Navy. Committal prayers and interment will be in White Cemetery, Hunter, under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Ser-vice.

Delbert George “George” Smith, of Nash, formerly of Enid, was born Nov. 29, 1937, in Hunter, Okla., the son of Walter “Burr” and LaVera Lemons Smith and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, in Enid.

He was raised in Hunter and served in the United States Navy, and later the United States Air Force.

George married Lillian Pata (Brawner) in 1958. To this union, three children were born, LaVera, Mary and Karen.

He worked as a welder in the oil field and Shaklee Machine Shop for many years. George was a race car driver and affiliated with Enid Speedway for many years.

On Jan. 13, 1988, George married Melba Ruth Weaver in Enid. She preceded him in death on Oct. 7, 2012.

George was the founder of the No. 1 Oklahoma Polka Club and was a member of the American Legion.

Surviving George are daughters, LaVera Wiggs of Belen, N.M., Mary Smith of Enid, Karen (Dr. Jeff) Curtis of Uvalde, Texas, and Laura Nelson of Santa Fe, Texas; grandchildren, Shelly and husband Michael Dulinsky, Ty Smith, Angela Smith, Kayla Curtis, Jordan Curtis, Jeremy Nelson, Josh Nelson and Jerrid Nelson; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Melba, George was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Wanda McAtee, and sister, Ladonna Nair.

The family has selected Hospice Circle of Love as appropriate for memorial remembrances with the Stittsworth family serving as custodian of the funds.
