ENID, Okla. —
Funeral service for Corinne Smith, 96, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Hunter Christian Church, with Rev. Tommy Donaldson and Brian Meyer officiating. Burial will be in White Cemetery with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.
Corinne was born to Howard and Corinne (Hames) Minton on May 7, 1916, near Timberlake, S.D.
She graduated from Timberlake High School in 1934. The family moved to Oklahoma, and Corinne continued her education at Phillips University and Northwestern University, where she earned her teaching certificate.
She taught in the rural schools of Science Hall School near Marshall, Enterprise School, and Valley Forge School near Hunter.
On May 12, 1940, Corinne married Cecil P. Smith. They farmed in the Hunter and Billings area. After Cecil’s death in 1970, she continued to farm and worked as a tax practitioner for 21 years in Garber and Lamont.
Corinne is a longtime member of Hunter Christian Church, teaching Sunday school to various ages for over 30 years. She was also active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship and Merry Matrons Club.
She is survived by children, Bruce Smith and wife Christina of Alva, Howard Smith and wife Gail of Denison, Texas, Mary Lassiter and husband Mike of Enid, and Carl Smith of Hunter; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Corinne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cecil; and brother, Bruce Minton.
