AMES, OK —
The memorial service for Karen S. Detrick, 73-year-old Ames resident, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2013, in Parker Chapel Church, Ringwood-Ames highway, with Pastor Rick Milam officiating. A private family committal will follow in Ames Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Karen was born August 16, 1939, in Dewey, Oklahoma, to Howard and Opal (Maynard) Dyer and died Friday, August 2, 2013, in her home in rural Ames.
She attended local schools and graduated from Enid High School with the class of 1957.
On June 18, 1965, she married Dean Detrick at the home of her parents in Enid, where the couple made their home. They moved to Ames in 1973.
She devoted a good part of her time to Parker Chapel, of which she was a longtime member. She was the church pianist for many years, taught Sunday school and helped with church bulletins and youth ministry. She enjoyed sewing and often gave away items to family members. Karen loved the Lord Jesus and Christian music, as well as playing the piano.
She is survived by husband Dean, son Mark and daughter Cynthia, all of the home; brother, Dale Dyer and wife Eileen, of Concord, California; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Esther.
