ENID, Okla. —
Guy Root, 70, of Bucklin, Kan., died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kan. He was born Aug. 14, 1942, in Enid, Okla., to Elvin and Cecille (Smith) Root.
He was a longtime Bucklin resident.
Guy was a retired law enforcement officer, having served the city of Bucklin for 13 years, and then with the Ford County Sheriff’s Office for 15 years.
He was a member of KKOA (Kustom Kemp of America). He had served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves from 1960-1968. He was an avid fisherman, biker and had an interest in custom cars.
On Feb. 28, 1971, he married Glenna Rae Sammons in Garden Grove, Calif. She survives.
Other survivors include children, Laurie Dirks, Bucklin; Guy Root Jr. and wife Jenny, Enid; Donna Giannini and husband Ed, Las Vegas; and Greg Hornung and wife Tracey, St. Louis; brother, TJ Root; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters, Lawson, Carleen, Smithy, Alvin, Gene, Bernadine, Lotus, Donald, Wanda and Loretta.
Military graveside rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, by Howard Gotschall Post 1714 at the Kansas Soldiers Cemetery, Fort Dodge, Kan.
