Funeral for Richard Gunning will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at Wentworth Chapel in Carmen. Interment will be in Carmen City Cemetery under direction of Wentworth Mortuary LLC, Carmen.
Richard Paul Gunning, son of the late Laura Iva Farrington, was born May 9, 1932, in Shawnee, Okla., and passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, in Billings, Mont., at age 81 years, 1 month and 10 days.
Richard joined the United States Marines in November 1951. He was a machine gunner and was injured in the Korean war, receiving a Purple Heart medal.
Richard was united in marriage to Frances “Susie” Mae Cheney Oct. 9, 1952. They made their home in Enid.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; one great-grandson, Landon; two sisters; and four brothers.
He is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Marie Otis and husband Donnie of Harper, Kan., and Barbara Jean Simmons and husband William of Billings, Mont.; six grandchildren, Brian, Brandon, Debra Sue, Christopher, Annette and Crystal; nine great-grandchildren, Amy, Joslin, Megan, Alexander, Clarice, Madeline, Emily, Chloe and Christian; and other relatives and friends.
