ENID, OK — Funeral service for Tommy H. Smith, 71, of Enid, Okla., will be 2 p.m. today, Jan. 30, 2014, at Ladusau-Evans Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Edmison officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Tom was born Nov. 2, 1942, in Enid to Lynn and Orpha Piper Smith and passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

He attended and graduated from Kremlin High School.

He entered the U.S. Army on Dec. 3, 1963, serving two tours in the Vietnam War, being honorably discharged on Dec. 8, 1969.

He married the love of his life, Mary Ann McHendry, on Jan. 28, 1989, at Calvary Baptist Church in Enid. They would have celebrated 25 years of marriage.

Tom faithfully took his wife, Mary Ann, to lunch every Saturday, never missing a day for 25 years.

Tom went to work for the railroad for a short time, and then went to work for Oklahoma Natural Gas, retiring after more than 30 years of service.

Tom was an avid NASCAR and OU Sooner fan. The pride and joy of his life was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of the home; daughter, Stacy Byrum; four grandchildren, Chevelle, Shelby, Jacob and Dakota; one great-granddaughter, Emma; aunt, Eva Burke of Enid; brothers-in-law, L.H. Diel of Breckinridge and Mark Diel and wife Judi of Fairmont; sisters-in-law, Peggy Jensen and husband Pete of Mansfield, Texas, Shirley Blodgett and husband Mark, and Sharon Long and companion Dan Buckley of Enid; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and several close friends.

His little partners, Maggie Mae and Missie Rae, their two English Bulldogs, who he pampered and loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister.

Memorials may be made to Enid SPCA, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

The family has asked that everyone dress casual.
