ENID, Okla. —
Dwayne Dale Cox was born Jan. 25, 1933, in Douglas, Garfield, Okla., to Homer E. Cox and Ruth Weldon-Cox and passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013.
Dwayne enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951, and completed Boot Camp at The Naval Training Center, San Diego, Calif.
Dwayne met his beloved wife, Virginia Ruth Herrian, while on Thanksgiving leave and following a “Whirlwind Courtship” they married Jan 1, 1952, in Enid.
Dwayne was honorably discharged from the Navy in Norfolk, Va., on April 26, 1955, as an Aviation Machinist Mate Third Class. During Dwayne’s career, he received numerous awards and Outstanding Performance ratings.
He became Division Chief of Quality at the DCASPRO Office, responsible for two major contractors, McDonnell-Douglas and Rockwell.
Dwayne retired June 3, 1989, after 34 years of government service. He received the “Distinguished Career Award” from Defense Logistics Agency.
Dwayne is survived by his devoted wife, Virginia of 61 years; daughter, Karen Sue Cox; sons, Randy and Renee, and Kevin and Vona; a sister, Barbara and Johnny Booze; grandchildren, Nathan, Amanda, Jason, Lauren, Matt and Patty Boskie-Holweg; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and a sister.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Moore’s Southlawn, Tulsa. Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel.
