John was born Dec. 15, 1924, in Cork County, Ireland.
In 1955, he moved to San Francisco, Calif., to play professional soccer.
It was on a blind date at a grocery store where he met the love of his life, Evelyn Gorrell. Shortly thereafter, while at a Billy Graham Crusade in 1957, John accepted Christ into his heart.
He and Evelyn were married May 31, 1958, in Denison, Texas. In 1984, they moved to Enid.
For 22 years, John worked in the lawn and garden department at Walmart, where he was greatly respected and loved. He always had a joke to tell and enjoyed making people laugh.
He died Jan. 15, 2013, at the age of 88.
John loved his Lord and served Him through many ministries, but his favorites were Son Grace Music Ministries and The Crown Center. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he was active in his Sunday school class, Sr. Citizens Clubs and served as an usher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; and brother, Patrick O’Connor.
John is survived by his daughter, Sherry O’Connor, and lots of family and friends in Christ.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Sherry O’Connor at P.O. Box 983, Enid, OK 73702.
