WAUKOMIS, OK — Funeral service for Melvin “Chick” Burns, 90, of Waukomis, will be 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at Church of Christ in Hennessey. Paul Walboord will officiate. Burial will follow in Waukomis Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Military graveside honors will be conducted by the United States Army.

Chick was born Sept. 20, 1923, to Henry and Emma Doss Burns in Seminole County and passed away Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, in Waukomis.

He was educated in Seminole County.

He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked on the Pikes Peak Project. He was a sergeant in the United States Army and served during WWII. He was stationed in the Philippines.

Following his discharge, he married Clariece Pattison on March 23, 1946. They lived in Borger, Texas, where he was a welder before returning to Seminole. They moved to Waukomis in 1962, where he was a welder in the oil field until retirement. He was a member of Church of Christ in Hennessey.

He is survived by his wife, Clariece of Waukomis; son, David of Claremore; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy, in 1997, his parents, two brothers and a sister.
