Funeral for Ida “ Louise” Schmitz, 82-year-old Enid resident, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Bobby Hall will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with family will be 5-7 p.m. today at Henninger-Hinson Chapel.
Louise was born Sept. 30, 1930, in Anthony, Kan., to A.D. and Lolita (Holden) Shafer and died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Greenbrier Nursing Home.
She attended Wakita schools and graduated from Wakita High School in 1948.
On Oct. 23, 1948, she married Robert Schmitz in Clyde, Okla. The couple made their first home in Marysville, Kan. In 1953 they moved to Enid, where Robert worked at Bonds Bakery.
Louise was a longtime member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She was a member of Enid Social Club and also a member of the Moose Lodge.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed Big Band and dance music, and liked to play cards and chicken-foot dominoes.
She is survived by her four daughters, Jeanne Davidson of Enid, Susie Shumate and husband David of Breckinridge, Maressa Sissom and husband Raymond of Enid, and Beth Schmitz of Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Lori Neahring (Darrell), Zane Davidson (Amanda), Zachary Jones (Flora), Alyssa Shumate, Jason Shumate (Shannon), Kera Shumate, Kristy Dunn (John) and Kai Sissom; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Sladek, and brothers, John (Cleta) and Larry (Cheryl) Shafer. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Robert.
Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to either Our Daily Bread or OMRF, kidney division.
