Paul Crockett Duncan Jr.

Published 9-13-13

ENID, Okla. — Paul Crockett Duncan Jr. was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Oct. 1, 1940. He was the elder son of Paul C. Duncan Sr. and Kathleen Gail LaVonne Trammel Duncan.

Paul was a graduate of the Northwest Classen Knights Class of 1958. He was President of the Honors Society and was a Faculty Award recipient.

He graduated from the University of Oklahoma, where he was President of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He received his Juris Doctoctorate in 1964, and entered private practice at Pierce, Mock, Duncan, Couch and Hendrickson of Oklahoma City.

In 1971, Paul entered service with the State of Oklahoma as the Chief of the Civil Division in the office of Attorney General Larry Derryberry. He served eight years, the last of which as First Assistant Attorney General.

Paul returned to private practice from 1978 until 1990. He then returned to state service at the Oklahoma State and Education Employees Group Insurance Board. Paul retired from OSEEGIB as General Counsel to the Board in 2010. Throughout his professional life Paul worked with his friend and Administrative Assistant Charlene Williams.

Paul was an avid duplicate bridge player. He was a Gold Life Master, served as Good Will Ambassador for the Sooner Unit of the American Contract Bridge League, where he was also President for a number of years. He enjoyed playing bridge a great deal and counted the local players among his closest friends. Paul continued regular participation with his favorite bridge partner, Suzanne Livesay, at the Oklahoma City Bridge Studio until his health prevented his participation.

Paul’s friends and family will most often associate him with his love of Oklahoma Sooner Football. He attended every home game from the time he was 12-years-old until 2001, when family health problems caused him to miss a couple. He continued to attend home games whenever possible until this past year.

Paul and Linda hosted a pre-game football brunch for over 40 years and did their part to raise Sooner Magic.

Paul is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Linda Carroll Nance Duncan; his daughters, Dr. Deborah C. May and husband John C.H. May, R.N. of Waukomis, Okla., and Phyllis G. Lower and husband Douglas Lower of Yukon, Okla.; and his brother, William T. Duncan and wife Diana of Reston, Va.

Pastor Jim Adams will officiate a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur, Oklahoma City, OK 73142, with a brief reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Paul’s name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or to the University of Oklahoma General Scholarship Fund.

Memorial service provided by Vondel L. Smith & Son North, Oklahoma City.
