ENID, Okla. — Gary Robison, 68, of Tonkawa, Okla., passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, at his home in Tonkawa.

Gary was born Oct. 12, 1944, in Enid, Okla., to Thomas Robert and May Irene (Jenkins) Robison.

Gary grew up in Salt Fork, Okla. He graduated from Lamont High School with the class of 1963, and attended college at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa and Central State University of Edmond.

Gary married Marilyn Miller in June 1966, celebrating 46 years of marriage.

He lived in Salt Fork until 1966, then moved to Agusta, Kan., with his new wife, Marilyn, to work for Beech Aircraft, then moved to Tonkawa in 1968, until present.

Gary was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard from 1965-1971, where he attained the rank of Specialist 5 Class and Motor Pool Sergeant, receiving an honorable discharge after six years of service.

Gary started his working career as a production planner at Beech Aircraft in Augusta, Kan. He later moved to Tonkawa and worked for various companies, including Williams Rock Bit Co. and United Farm Tools in Tonkawa. He then transitioned into the emergency management and safety field, working in that capacity for Kay County, City of Blackwell, Charles Machine Works of Perry and the Kaw Nation.

Gary belonged to many professional organizations over his career, which included the Oklahoma and National Safety Councils, Oklahoma Emergency Management Association and Kay County Amateur Radio and OIDAR Amateur Radio Clubs, where he held a general class Ham Radio Operators license.  He was a Founder of the Oklahoma Inter Tribal Emergency Management Coalition, an advisory member for the Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center, a nationally certified emergency manager, a board of directors adviser for the Cherokee Strip Red Cross, a former Kay County reserve deputy sheriff and a Sky Warn storm spotter for western Kay County.

Gary was a member of Christian Life Church in Tonkawa, where he served as an elder for the past 28 years. He also chaired many church committees, led worship and praise, and taught Sunday School for many years. He was mentor to many and cared very deeply for his church family.

Gary loved hunting, fishing and camping, card parties, storm chasing, electronics and especially his family and his many friends. He had a big personality and never met a stranger.

Gary is survived by his wife, Marilyn of the home; his children, Christy Anne Robison Lampe of Tonkawa, and Cleona (Oney) Roubedeaux and husband Richard of Pawnee, Okla.; grandchildren, Braden and Abby Lampe of Tonkawa, Lonnie Others, Donnie Chalepah, Joy Roy and Michael Roy; brother, Orie Dean Robison of Enid, Okla.; sister, Roberta Allen and husband Earlwayne of Lamont, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Loran Eugene.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. today, April 24, 2013, at Christian Life Church, with Pastor Derrick Marshall officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home, Tonkawa, Okla.
