Miller honored by public relations association

Erica Miller, communications and marketing specialist at Canadian Valley Technology Center’s Chickasha campus, recently was honored as one of the National School Public Relations Association’s “35 under 35” for 2012.

This group of professionals was nominated by their NSPRA peers and selected as this year’s top young professionals. Each recipient will be highlighted in an NSPRA newsletter throughout this school year.

Certificates for this year’s selectees were distributed at the NSPRA annual meeting in San Diego in July.

Miller was one of four Oklahomans recognized for the honor. Miller began her career in school public relations with an internship at Northwest Tech in Alva in 2004 while in college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Upon graduating with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications, she worked at Eagle Marketing as a marketing rep for one year before accepting the position at Canadian Valley Technology Center-Chickasha campus in 2006.  

Miller has completed master’s degrees in adult education and school counseling, and is certified in school counseling and journalism education. She is taking advanced courses in counseling and psychology. She continues to seek out learning opportunities in education, counseling and public relations.

“After attending the NSPRA conference, I am inspired to begin working on the public relations accreditation process,” she said. “I know it will make me more effective in my work, and help take me to the next level of the profession.”  

UniFirst celebrates Founder’s Day; announces Employee of the Year

UniFirst Corporation celebrated its 12th annual Founder’s Day July 12 at its facilities in Enid.

Founder’s Day honors the memory of the late Aldo Croatti, who started the national “billion dollar” uniform service and supply company on July 12, 1936. This special day is held at more than 200 UniFirst locations throughout the U.S. and Canada each year on the Friday closest to that historic date; it has been an annual event since Croatti’s passing in 2001.

As part of the day’s celebrations, UniFirst employees, known as team partners, reaffirmed an annual pledge to the company’s “Essentials of Service,” which were established by Croatti and call upon team partners to continually make UniFirst customers the “focus of all they do.”

Michael Williams, location manager for UniFirst’s Enid facility, congratulated all UniFirst Team Partners for “continually keeping total customer satisfaction in mind in the performance of every one of your work tasks. It’s that type of focused dedication that has contributed to our company becoming the industry leader it is today.”

UniFirst’s celebration was highlighted by the naming of Cody Warfield as Employee of the Year.

“We recognized Cody for this unique honor because of the ongoing contributions he makes to UniFirst’s success and his constant willingness to go the extra mile in creating customer satisfaction,” Williams said. Warfield was presented a special recognition gift and his name will be engraved on a special plaque that will be on permanent display at the UniFirst facility. He lives in Enid and has worked at UniFirst since January 2011.

Enid banker named distinguished graduate of banking school

Emily Howell, personal banker at InterBank, recently was named a Distinguished Graduate of the 2013 Oklahoma Bankers Association Intermediate Banking School.

Howell was selected for the Intermediate Banking School honor based on her outstanding work on the school’s exam and her contributions and participation in class. She was chosen by the school’s regents, staff, faculty and students. Howell was among 42 students who attended the school in February and June at the OBA’s Harris Event Center in Oklahoma City.

The OBA Intermediate Banking School, conducted annually, prepares junior- to mid-level bank officers and future officers to effectively serve the needs of their banks and consumers. The school exposes students to a broad range of banking functions and issues, including economics, marketing, lending, investments, trust services, compliance and legal issues, bank financial analysis, ethics, human resource management, communications, strategic planning, regulatory examinations and asset/liability management.

OBA conducts more than 70 educational programs and seminars each year, which reach more than 5,000 bankers across the state. The association represents about 230 banks across the state and serves as the primary advocate for the banking industry. It’s also heavily involved in fraud training and prevention, as well as legal and compliance services and communications for its member banks.
