St. Mary’s center receives certificate

St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center’s Diabetes Care Center recently received American Diabetes Association’s Education Recognition Certificate for its diabetes self-management education program.

ADA’s Education Recognition Certificate assures educational programs meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs. The standards were developed and tested under the auspices of National Diabetes Advisory Board in 1983 and were revised in 1994, 2000 and 2007.

Programs apply for recognition voluntarily. Programs that achieve recognition status have health professionals who can provide participants with comprehensive information about diabetes management.

“The process gives professionals a national standard by which to measure the quality of services they provide, said Stan Tatum, St. Mary’s CEO/managing director. “And, of course, it assures the consumer that he or she will likely receive high-quality service.”

Education Recognition status is verified by a certificate from ADA and is awarded for four years.
