Ladusau named Oklahoma Funeral Director of Year



Dean Ladusau was named 2007-08 Oklahoma Funeral Director of the Year at the 106th annual Oklahoma Funeral Directors Association convention recently in Tulsa.

Ladu-sau was selected for his years of service in the funeral business. He was raised in Enid and attended Cincinnati Mortuary College, graduating in 1949.

He was recognized for the compassion, dignity and professionalism he shows in his occupation. He was commended for the ability to listen and undertake the burdens of grieving families and their circumstances throughout the years.

Ladusau said he enjoys what he does and looks forward to going to work every day and helping the families who entrust their loved ones with him and his staff.



YWCA representatives

attend conference



Kayte Anton and Rae Wilson recently attended the YWCA National Conference and annual General Assembly, held April 10-13 in Alexan-dria, Va.

Anton, YWCA’s community education and prevention specialist, and Wil-son, a YWCA board member, took part in events and education sessions centered on the conference theme, “Deep Roots, Wide Branches.”

Highlights included a key-note addresses titled “The Politics of Women: 2009 and Beyond” presented by Donna Brazile, former manager of the Gore-Lierberman presidential campaign in 2000, and Bay Buchanan, former campaign chairman of her brother Pat Buchanan’s presidential campaigns. The women exchanged their views on the state of affairs in American politics and women’s issues in the 2008 presidential campaign.

“Donna and Bay were humorous and very insightful about issues involving the two major political parties. They had very distinct beliefs but were able to combine their different political views into an informational yet entertaining presentation,” said Wilson, who also is an instructor of social work at Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Enid.

Educational sessions during the conference focused on the organization’s central mission, “Eliminating Racism and Empowering Women” and included workshops on fundraising and sustainability, money management for the next generation, the feminizations of HIV and AIDS, issues for immigrant women, racial justice projects from other YWCAs, voter empowerment and protection and the importance of witnessing whiteness in developing an effective anti-racist practice. Anton also had the opportunity to participate in the Young Women’s Summit for women involved in the YWCA ages 18 to 31.

The conference culminated with the Racial Justice Awards dinner where the guest speaker was Myrlie Evers-Williams, a civil rights activist and former chairwoman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. She is the widow of murdered civil rights leader Medgar Evers, who was assassinated outside their Mississippi home in 1963.

The purpose of the conference is to provide networking opportunities for YWCAs in the United States, acknowledge the historic roots of the YWCA, and foster development of the YWCA’s national coordinating board.

Page receives award



Mary Page, office manager for Goltry Public Works Authority, recently received the 2008 Oklahoma Rural Water Association Outstand-ing Bookkeeper Award.

She has worked with GPWA since 1972 and handles collection of utility revenues, preparation of new customer information, payroll, customer services, processing work orders and preparation of the monthly financial reports and billing.

Glazier graduates academy



Stephen Glazier, of Enid, recently graduated from Oklahoma Citizens Academy in Oklahoma City.

In its fifth year, Citizens Academy seeks to increase the number of local leaders who are making an impact on the development of their communities.

During the six sessions, participants learned the basics of community and economic development, while developing team-building skills. Their final requirement for graduation was fulfilled at an April 24 session when they presented proposals to recruit new business opportunities to their area. Lt. Gov. Jari Askins was the keynote speaker for graduation.

Collins receives customer

satisfaction award



Bob Collins, of Curttright Honda, recently was honored by American Honda with the Top Customer Satisfac-tion award in Zone 10, which includes Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas and Arkansas.

Collins has worked for Curttright for 11 years and has been in sales for 34 years.



OBEC honors BKD LLP

with Compass Award



Oklahoma Business Ethics Consortium recently honored its Compass Award recipients.

Todd Lisle, partner for BKD LLP, accepted honors in the large company category. BKD has offices in Enid, Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

The Compass Award program was developed in 2003 by Oklahoma Business Ethics Consortium, a statewide non-sectarian, nonprofit organization consisting of nearly 600 business leaders in Oklahoma City, Norman and Tulsa. The purpose of the award is to promote the sharing of best practices in business ethics. Company applications are posted online at www.okethics.org so others may access and implement ideas for promoting integrity at work. 



Lucas tabs Buck to serve

as field representative



U.S. Rep. Frank D. Lucas has hired Stacy Buck to serve as his field representative for a six-county area of his congressional district in north central Oklahoma.

She is based out of Lucas’ Yukon office and covers Grant, Garfield, Kingfisher, Canadian, Kay and Noble counties.

“Stacy is a welcome addition to my Oklahoma team,” Lucas said. “I have great confidence in her ability to represent me with constituents when I’m in Washington. She’ll have a big responsibility meeting and working with constituents from Ponca City and Medford to Enid and Kingfisher.”

Buck is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a degree in agricultural communications. While at OSU, she served as an intern for American Lung Association and for Oklahoma AgrAbility.

Buck is the daughter of Gregg and Andrea Buck, of Altus, and a graduate of Altus High School.

“Everyone has been friendly and welcoming,” Buck said. “I’m ready to get out into the field and meet with the constituents. I look forward to working with the people of the Third District.”

As a field representative, Buck will act as a grassroots representative for Lucas, keeping him informed of events occurring in the district and attending events on Lucas’ behalf when he is in Washington.

Harold Shore achieves

Competent Leader award



Harold Shore, a member of Enid Speakers of the Plains Toastmasters Club, has achiev-ed his Competent Leader award.

Requirements for Competent Leader award include completion of 10 projects in the Competent Leadership manual. These include listening and leadership, critical thinking, giving feedback, time management, planning and implementation, organizing and delegating, developing facilitation skills, motivating people, mentoring and team building.

Toastmasters International provides an opportunity for members to gain experience in both communication and leadership. For information, attend a Toastmas-ters meeting. The group meets at 7 p.m. each Thursday at 521 N. Grand.



Youngs receive RE/MAX

Recruiter of the Year



Gary and Sherry Young were honored with the Recruiter of the Year award, presented at the Oklahoma Awards Celebration in Oklahoma City in February. The Youngs are founders and owners of RE/MAX Premier Realtors in Enid.

In presenting the award, Steve Aulger, regional director of RE/MAX Mid-States Region, said “RE/MAX has been built one agent at a time and one office at a time. Some-times when you mix hard work with focus and positive attitude, special things can happen. However, if you take those same qualities and sprinkle in a little RE/MAX spirit, well, then you have magic.

Dupy named Northcutt

Employee of the Month



Ray Dupy has been named Employee of the Month for March at Northcutt Chevy-Buick-Toyota, 3201 W. Garriott.

Dupy has been with the Northcutt sales department for 20 years. He has an outstanding reputation among customers and co-workers, according to his supervisors.

“His knowledge and professionalism exceed the highest of standards, and we appreciate his dedication to our goal of 100 percent customer satisfaction,” said his supervisors.

Jones receives Court

Clerk Certification



Margaret F. Jones, Garfield County District Court clerk, was presented her Court Clerk Certification by Justice James Edmondson at the Court Clerk’s Association Annual Conference April 23 in Oklahoma City

A total of 60 credit hours management and court clerk specific approved courses through Oklahoma State University are required for certification. All courses must be taken within four years. Jones completed the courses within one year.

Jones was appointed Garfield County District Court clerk by Garfield County commissioners in December 2006.
