Memories focus on good times with father, family and friends

I received my Eagle Scout in 1978 at the age of 16. As a young boy I set a goal to do what my dad, Tim J. Crowley, had done, earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

I mostly remembered my Scouting days as good times with my dad, sitting around roaring campfires, fishing beautiful ponds, gardening vegetables and enjoying camaraderie with fellow Scouts.

Sharing these activities with my dad forged a strong bond between us. Mom played a big part, too. She prepared my uniform and gear, sewed merit badges on my sash, stuffed my duffel bag for camp and made sure I had the comforts of home while on the road.

It was a family effort that culminated as my first major accomplishment in life, Eagle Scout, one that prepared me for the hurdles of higher education and undoubtedly played a part in my success later in life. I learned to set and achieve goals and develop a love of learning as I worked my way toward the Eagle Scout award.

In 1991 I received my doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. I currently live in Rancho Mirage, Calif., with my wife and practice cosmetic dentistry.
