Froese, 80

Don Froese will celebrate his 80th birthday with a come-and-go reception for family and friends 2-4 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Grace Mennonite Church. Cards may be sent to 6225 N. Wheatridge Rd., Enid, OK 73703.

Don was born June 24, 1934, near Meno, Okla., the son of Carl O. Froese and Caroline Buller.

He moved to Enid in 1945. He attended Harrison Grade School, Emerson Junior High and graduated from Enid High School in 1953. He was a standout in football and track and was selected to the Tulsa World All State team.

He married the love of his live, Donna Ruth Hughes, July 3, 1954. They had been married 53 years at her death on Dec. 31, 2007.

He joined the Enid Fire Department on Sept. 15, 1955, where he served as driver, lieutenant and chief training officer during his 221⁄2 year career. He was elected to Oklahoma State Firefighters Association Board of Directors in 1969, serving as president in 1972. He also served as president of the Oklahoma Firefighter Museum board of directors from 1973 to March 14, 2014. He was instrumental in getting several items placed in the museum, including Enid’s 1940 American LaFrance Aerial ladder-truck.

He is a member of Grace Mennonite Church.

His children are Stephen A. Froese and wife Carolea, Guymon, and Debbie R. Semrad and husband Larry, Enid. He has five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
