Heusel, 90

Alice Bobbitt Heusel will celebrate her 90th birthday with a reception for family and friends 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at The Commons. Cards may be sent to 3700 King Street, No. 1006, Enid, OK 73703.  

Alice was born Nov. 13, 1923, in Salt Fork, Okla., the daughter of George T. and Adia Gray Bobbitt.

She attended the Country School Consolidated, second through eighth grade, and graduated from Lamont High School in 1942. She attended Central State (Teachers) College in Edmond.

During WWII, Alice was employed by Douglas Aircraft in Oklahoma City as a “Rosie the Riveter.”

Alice and Homer Heusel of Salt Fork, Okla., were married in 1968. They farmed east of Salt Fork and lived in Lamont. Alice served as Lamont town treasurer for many years. She was very active in the Lamont UMW, American Legion Auxiliary, Willing Workers Cooperative Extension and many other community activities. She was employed by Long’s John Deere of Garber until her retirement in 1988.

Since March 2009, she has been a resident at The Commons United Methodist Retirement Community.

Alice has three boys, Bill Sharp of Bastrop, Texas, and the late Sharon Sharp; George and Phyllis Sharp of Kingwood, Texas; and Bob and Sue Sharp of Towanda, Kan. She has eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
