— Ansel Cowan will celebrate his 92nd birthday at a lunch gathering with his children and their spouses, and wife, Margaret Parker Cowan on Saturday. Cards may be sent to 5801 N. Oakwood, No. D-102W, Enid, OK 73703.

Ansel was born in Snyder on March 26, 1921, the son of William Ansel N. and Dorothy Cowan.

He graduated from Snyder High School in 1939, and went on to study at Oklahoma A&M.

He worked for several years for the Civilian Conservation Corps as an instructor in mechanics in northeast Oklahoma before serving as a gunnery instructor in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Ansel worked 25 years for Halliburton Co., then taught diesel mechanics at Robertsdale Vocational High School in Alabama.

He has been married to Margaret for 71 years.

They are members of First Baptist Church, and have resided at Golden Oaks since 2002.

They have three children, Howard and Sue Cowan of Lubbock, Texas, Margie (Macrina) Cowan of Enid and Geoffrey and Steffi Cowan of Ponca City. They have five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
