Johnson, 80

Max Johnson will celebrate his 80th birthday Thursday with a four-generation family gathering in Edmond, the weekend prior to his birthday. Cards may be sent to 2722 Sunnybrook Circle, Enid, OK 73703.

Max was born in Dodge City, Kan. He grew up in Council Grove, Kan., where he graduated from high school in 1951. He later graduated from Kansas State University in 1955, with a degree in business.

His first years in business were with JCPenney and later with Farmland Industries. He was transferred to Enid when Farmland opened its plant in 1973, where he served more than 25 years as the business manager.

In the 1980s, he was on the Enid City Council and in the 1990s, served as chair of the Enid-Phillips Partnership Campaign.

Since retirement, he has been actively involved in Lifelong Learning in several capacities, Enid Mobile Meals, and most of all at Central Christian Church, where he sings in the choir, is president of the Crusader Class, is an elder, past chair of the board, has served numerous times as treasurer, edits the videotape of services for PEGASYS, is a member of Caregivers and Disciple Men.

He and Mary were married Sept. 18, 1958. They have three children, Debra Travers and husband Glen of Garden City, Kan.; James Johnson and wife Mary Helen of Boerne, Texas; and Randy Johnson and wife Jane of Enid. They have 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
