Violet Barnes Stephenson will celebrate her 100th birthday with a reception for family and friends 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Okeene United Methodist Church.

Violet was born Sept. 9, 1913, near Carlton in Blaine County, the daughter of William and Rebecca Harper Haigler.
She is a graduate of Southard High School and received her teaching certificate from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. She began her teaching career in a one-room school and later completed her degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
She taught school at Broadview, Pleasant Hill, Arapaho, Homestead and Okeene, completing 41 years of teaching mostly first-grade students.
She married and moved to Okeene in 1937, where she has been active at Okeene United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star and P.E.O., Chapter A.
She married William Carroll Stephenson Aug. 12, 1980.
Her children are Bill Barnes and wife, Karen, of Ames and Bunnie Bond, of Okeene. She has four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
