Eileen was born June 14, 1928, in New York City to Irish immigrants Martin and Winnie (Duffy) Conroy.
She received her BSN from Manhattanville College and did graduate work at Teachers College, Columbia University, in New York, and at Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
After working as a staff nurse and inservice educator at Veterans Administration Hospital in Bronx, N.Y, and instructor at the school of nursing at St. Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury, Conn., she traveled to Saudi Arabia, where she was director of nursing service for the Arabian American Oil Co. Hospital from 1958 to 1974.
She married Jack E. Kurtz May 15, 1960, while in Saudi Arabia. He died in 1974, and she moved her family to Enid, where she served as director of nursing service at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center from 1975 to 1985, and as director of special services from 1985 to 1995.
Following retirement, she worked part time as clinical examiner for certified nursing assistants at Autry Tech, and she has done part-time consulting at The Living Center and The Arbors. She also served many years on the Ethics Committee of Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.
She is a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where she has served on the parish board and as president of the Altar Society. She also has served with United Way, CDSA, Advisory Committee for Senior Citizens, Life Long Learning, the Community Clinic and Gaslight Theatre. She is a member of Garfield County Republican Women and PEO, a philanthropic group that gives grants to women pursuing further education.
Her children are Sara Kurtz, Tulsa; John and Lori Kurtz, Miami; and Dan and Stacy Kurtz, Enid. She has four grandchildren.
