Margaret Louise Church Strader will celebrate her 94th birthday Wednesday. A longtime resident of Homestead, she now resides at the Okeene Summit Living Center, Room 101. Cards may be sent to Strader at P.O. Box 607, Okeene, OK 73763.
Margaret was born to William and Florence Church and lived her early years on their farm, 31⁄2 miles west and 1 mile south of Homestead, where she was raised with her two brothers, Harland and Glen, who both are deceased. Her family attended the Homestead Methodist Church, which eventually became Homestead Bible Church.
After graduating from Homestead High School, she attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University at Alva, were she earned her teaching certification. She began a long life of teaching at Homestead High School and Okeene High School. While at Okeene, she taught elementary music, high school Spanish and English.
She married Eugene Strader, and they celebrated their 60th anniversary before Eugene’s death in 2006. Margaret and Gene were members of Homestead Bible Church, where Margaret was organist for more than 50 years and was involved in all of the activities of her church and her community.
Margaret has three children, Terry and his wife, Sharon, of Homestead, Troy and his wife, Delia, of Oklahoma City and Linda and her husband, David, of Homestead, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
