McCartney gets 2nd win of season

By Cheryl Licklider, Staff Writer

Ross “Bub’’ McCartney found track conditions to his liking as he posted his second win of the season aboard his McCartney Welding/Mike’s Automotive- sponsored limited modified in racing action at Enid Speedway Park Saturday night.

“The car ran outstanding and it was a good run with Kenny (Morris) finishing second (in the car owned by McCartney),” said McCartney. “The track was smooth, tacky and dry down the straightaways. It worked to my advantage.”

McCartney hustled off the outside pole and set up a 10-car length lead in a mere two laps. Undaunted by two early cautions, McCartney hooked up smooth in the groove and boasted a five-car length lead when a yellow flag waved at the race’s midpoint for a two car pile-up in turn four.

McCartney hurried away from the field when the green flag waved and took over a straight-away advantage to the finish line.

Morris posted second, followed by Johnny “The Rocket” Rauschenberg, Landon Maddox and Randy Sallee.

Mike Roach made it two in a row as he navigated his Dunsworth Machine-powered modified to his second “A” feature win in a row.

Roach hurried off the front row and took command of the race. Jon Herring Jr. went in hot pursuit and the hunt was on. It was a heated drag race for several laps as they dueled side-by-side.

A caution flag waved in lap three for debris on the track. The battle continued on the restart with Roach in precarious command. The battle culminated as they made contact two laps later damaging Herring’s front end which saw Roach break away from the field.

Dusty Robbins spun and came to rest, bringing out a caution at the race’s midpoint. Unrelenting, Roach took control when the feature resumed and raced to the line uncontested.

Herring clung to second, followed by Robbins, Jeremy Green and Richard Shearon.

Persistence paid off for Bud Longpine as he navigated his street stock to his second win of the season.

A yellow flag waved for mayhem on the start. Pacesetter Longpine took command when the green flag waved with Jon Herring Sr. in the hunt. But all that effort was for naught as a twin spin brought the yellow flag out the next time around.

Longpine picked up where he left off and had a five-car length advantage when Travis King spun to a halt in lap 12 to put the race back under caution. Longpine showed the way, only to see another yellow flag wave as Wesley Krukenburg stopped in turn four.

Longpine continued his run when the race finally went green and took nearly a straight-away lead to the checkered flag.

Dustin Allen posted second, trailed by Herring, Derek King and Ryan Bohnstedt.

Defending champion Ronnie Ramer continued his reign over factory stock as he piloted his Watonga Butane/NAPA-sponsored Chevy to his third win of the year.

Ramer exploded off the second row and boasted a straight-away advantage by the race’s midpoint. The veteran found the quick way around and was unshakable as he gradually improved his advantage and took a half-a-lap lead to the line.

Dustin Exline, Wayne Gibson, David Fisher and Brandon Gibson rounded out the top five.

Joe Adams continued his run in pure stock as he put his Platinum Motorsports-sponsored ride in the winner’s circle for the fifth time this season.

Michael Meek led the early laps, but his luck ran out the fifth time around when Adams charged onto the point.

Adams set up a commanding lead and never looked back. Mark Smith posted second, trailed by Darin Busch, Meeks and Mike Smith.

Heat winners were McCartney, Todd Decker and Morris, limited modified; Roach, modified; Longpine, street stock; Ramer, factory stock and Mark Smith and Meeks, pure stock.

Enid Speedway Park’s next card of racing will be Kids’ Night Sept. 12.
