Robbins takes 2nd win

By Cheryl Licklider, Staff Writer

Local young gun Dusty Robbins found track conditions to his liking as he piloted his Dirt Performance/Michael’s Welding/H&H Trucking-sponsored Kraft car to his second win of the season at Enid Speedway Park Saturday night.

“It was a good, smooth track tonight and took on rubber,” said Robbins.

Jon Herring Jr. exploded off the outside pole and sported a 10-car lead when a caution came out in lap four as Bryan Rowland spun to a halt in turn two. Herring raced away when the track went green, with Dusty Robbins in hot pursuit. Robbins put his ride out front with a daring inside challenge the second time around and had a clear advantage when another yellow waved for Rowland in lap seven.

Robbins resumed the hot seat when the race resumed, only to see Kip Hughes spin out in turn four and put the race back under caution two laps later. One more yellow flag flew on the start as Todd Decker spun in turn two.

Robbins sped away when the track stayed green and, with a clear track, was unstoppable on his course to the checkers. Herring held onto second, followed by Darren Hacker, Kelly Wheeler and Jim Ciampi.

Tony Sessions continued his dominance as he posted his third win of the year aboard his Hennessey Well Service/Raugh Frac Service/East Co Rental-sponsored limited modified.

“I really thought Mike was going to get me. It was a real good race,” said Sessions.

Randy “The Dandy” Miller raced off the second row and headed up the grueling race. His glory was short-lived as he spun in turn two the second time around. Tommy Morgan Jr. inherited the lead as the yellow flag came out.

Sessions used a brazen outside challenge to take the point on the restart. Sessions sailed away, with Michael Shenberger in hot pursuit. It was a heated battle until the track went under caution in lap five. The duo sped away from the field when the green flag waved and the skirmish continued until a three-car pile-up brought out another yellow flag in lap 11.

The fight continued when the green flag waved until another caution came out for debris two laps later. The pair raced away locked in a frenzied scuffle, only to see the flagman show the red flag in lap 17 as Cleo Adams’ ride erupted into flames in front of the flag stand.

Sessions found the fast way around when the race went green and took a strong lead to the line. Shenberger settled for second, with Steve Blunk, Tommy Morgan Jr. and Kevin Snow trailing at the line. A red flag waved on the finish as Korey Vendetti rolled violently down the front straight into the wall. Vendetti climbed from the demolished car unharmed.

Kenny “The Iron Man” Morris displayed his winning ways as he put his Platinum Motorsports street stock in the winner’s circle for the second time this season.

“The car worked really well tonight. We broke the A-frame but we were able to hold onto it,” said Morris.

J.D. Choate raced off the pole and led the early going. But all that effort was for naught as a caution waved in lap two for mayhem in turn one.

Morris used an outside groove to put his Ford out front when the track went green and wasted no time in establishing a straightaway lead. Morris deftly maneuvered through lapped traffic and took nearly a half a lap advantage to the finish.

Mark Smith made a late charge to take second, followed by A.J. Brochu, Choate and Dustin “Hollywood” Allen.

Justin Scott outlasted the field in the factory stock main and posted his first win of the season aboard his Platinum Motorsports car.

Brad “The Bullet” Costello raced off the outside pole and looked to be the man to beat. Walter O’Dell spun to a halt in lap five and brought out the yellow flag. Costello resumed the point on the restart, with Scott in hot pursuit. Scott took command with a bold outside challenge in lap seven and sported nearly a straightaway advantage when the track went back under caution in lap 12.

Scott sped away when the green flag waved and made his way to the checkered flag with an imposing lead. Costello held onto second, trailed by Dave Cameron, Michael Smith and Damon Seiger.

Willis Adams continued his dominance in pure stock as he piloted his Platinum Motorsports ride to his fifth win of the year.

Adams accelerated off the second row and took the point the second time around. Despite four cautions Adams took more than a straightaway lead to the finish line. Duane Head, Tommy Bohnstedt, David Duncan Sr. and Tim Smart rounded out the top five.

Heat winners in modified were Hacker and Hughes.

Shenberger and Morgan posted the heat wins in limited modified, with Allen and Morris winning their heats in street stock. Factory stock heat winners were Ronnie Ramer and Cameron, with Adams taking the honors in pure stock.

Enid Speedway Park’s next card of racing will be 7 p.m. Saturday.
