Lack of seat time doesn’t deter Seiger

By Cheryl Licklider Commentary

Damon Seiger is living proof talent can surpass seat time in determining a champion, as this rookie driver won the first-half crown at Enid Speedway Park in the extremely competitive factory stock division.

According to the 20-year-old competitor, he never intended to chase points during his inaugural season in one of the Garfield County Fairground track’s most aggressive divisions.

“My main goal is to come out here and have fun,” said Seiger. “I wasn’t even paying attention to the points. There are a lot of fast cars out here, especially the Platinum Motorsports cars. I just try to be competitive every week.”

Seiger was introduced to the quick-paced sport last year while serving on the pit crew of his cousin, James Lott. He buckled into Harold Shaw’s factory stock at the Clinton Winter Nationals, and has been hooked on racing since.

“I had a blast and bought a factory stock of my own,” said Seiger. “I’m having a lot of fun out here, and plan to stay in factory stock for at least another season so I can learn a little more.”

Seiger attributes his success to assistance from Lott.

“James has taught me a lot about racing and race cars,” said Seiger. “He tells me what I’m doing wrong and what I need to do. I had worked on cars before, but don’t have a lot of experience with race cars. James does most of the work on the car.”

Lott and Brandon McKay serve as loyal crew members for the fast No. 86 Chevy. Land Run Chevrolet, R&T Pump Supply, Woods Body Shop and Weld America sponsor the quick ride.

Though inexperienced, this Hennessey young gun is fearless when he belts into his quick ride. When the green flag flies, Seiger said he clears his mind and concentrates on the cars and the track.

“I want to give special thanks to my mom and dad and James for their support,” said Seiger.

Other first half track champions include Darren Hacker in modified, Michael Shenberger in limited modified, A.J. Brochu in street stock and Duane Head in pure stock.
