Long trip worth it for Minnesota racer

By Cheryl Licklider Staff Writer

Willy Kraft, of Lakefield, Minn., found the trip to Enid profitable as he put his Kraft Kar modified in victory lane in racing action at Enid Speedway Park Saturday night.

Kraft took the lead at the race’s mid-point after battling early leader Mike Roach. He withstood a late challenge from Jason Hughes to take the checkered flag.

Hughes was second, followed by Roach, Tommy Weder Jr. and Derek Ramirez.

Tony Sessions outlasted the field in the caution-riddled limited modified “A” feature to secure his second feature win of the year aboard his Hennessey Well Service/Rauh Frac Service/East-Co Rental-sponsored car.

“The car worked really well tonight,’’ said Sessions. “The track has done such a good job of teching our division this year the competition is really evenly matched.’’

Burt Choate hustled off the outside pole to take the early lead. Lonnie Wilson’s motor blew in lap six and he stalled in the groove, bringing out a yellow flag. There was mayhem on the restart, leaving four cars stopped on the track.

Sessions dashed away from the field when the track finally stayed green and took a straightaway lead to the finish. Nick Shenberger made a late charge to capture second, followed by Choate, David Gerhard and John Hoeltzel.

Travis Johnson found track conditions to his liking as he put his Big O Tire/BB Machine-sponsored street stock in victory lane in his season debut.

“The track was pretty good,’’ said Johnson. “I didn’t have a good car tonight, we just got lucky.’’

Pacesetter Jay Arnold lost the lead on the third lap when Kenny “The Iron Man’’ Morris took command of the race with a bold outside challenge in turn four.

Morris wasted no time and set up a straightaway lead in a mere three laps. Morris was unstoppable until he faded off the pace in lap 15 and spun to a halt in turn four, putting the track under caution.

Johnson took the lead when the race went green — and despite two additional yellow flags — raced to the line uncontested. Dustin Allen posted second, trailed by Bud Longpine, Ryan Bohnstedt and A.J. Brochu.

Kenny Adams continued his dominance in factory stock as he piloted his Platinum Motorsports Chevy to his sixth “A’’ feature win of the season.

Dustin McNamara exploded off the outside pole and showed the way in the 20-lap race. His run was cut short as Adams made a daring inside challenge in lap three to take the lead. Adams found the quick way around and had nearly a half a lap lead when a yellow flag waved in lap 14.

Adams resumed the advantage when the green flag waved, and despite another caution in lap 16, was never challenged on his route to the checkered flag.

McNamara, the second-place finisher, was disqualified in the post-tech inspection for a mini clutch.

That gave second place to Brad Costello, followed by Walter O’Dell, III Damon Seiger and Matthew Norwood.

You only have to lead the last lap to win and that is just what Willis Adams did as he steered his Platinum Motor-sports pure stock to his fourth win of the season.

Michael Meek raced off the outside pole and led the early laps. Adams marched to second and was setting his sights on Meek when Duane Head went on a spin in turn three to put the track under caution.

Meek raced away on the restart and looked to be the man to beat. His dreams went up in a puff of smoke as his motor blew on the final lap. Adams captured the win, trailed by Justin Pruitt, David Dunkin, Tanner Choate and Chance Smart.

Heat winners in modified were Roach and Hughes.

Sessions and Michael Shen-berger posted heat wins in limited modified. Wesley Kruckenberg and Allen won heats in street stock.

Ronnie Ramer and O’Dell won heats in factory stock. Adams won in pure stock.

Enid Speedway Park’s next card of racing will be at 7 p.m. Saturday.
