This year’s Garden Tours of Enid held by the Garfield County Master Gardeners was one of the most successful to date in raising the funds needed to supply a $1,000 scholarship for a student from Garfield County or one of the counties touching.
We would like to thank the following for helping support us in this endeavor: Enid News and Eagle and photographer Billy Hefton for the excellent pictures and informative article; Lindy Chambers and Pegasys for hosting us on Community Talk; KGWA for the PSAs, live interview and ticket give-a-ways; Chisholm Trail Broadcasting for PSAs and ticket give-a-ways; Garden House, Plants-a-Plenty and Smith’s Greenhouse for distributing counter cards; St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for providing their passenger bus; our vendors, Auggie’s Antiques, Wild West Worm Farm, Sherri Stuber, Henry’s Birdhouses, Turtle Rock Retreat Center and George Davis with friends providing live music.
This event would not be possible without the wonderful garden owners opening their private spaces to the public. This year we would like to thank Barbara and Harlan Anderson, Sharon and Paul Franklin, Vicki Garber, Sherry Shaw, Sally and Robert Whiteneck and Gail and John Wynne for additionally spending time sharing their knowledge and experiences with those attending.
Plans have already begun for the 2009 Tour and the Committee is looking for gardens to include. Those interested or knowing of a special garden can call the OSU Extension at 237-1228 and leave the information, someone will be in contact with them.
Last but not least, a big thank you to all of the people that attended. Your support is paramount and we hope that you enjoyed yourself and came away with new ideas to try in your own gardens!
Sincerely,
Garfield County Master Gardeners
Kate Morrison, tour chairman
