United Way funds 14 grants

Fourteen programs have been selected to receive more than $42,000 in venture grant funds for 2007. These are one-time grants that target United Way’s priority human service needs.

Due to the record-setting campaigns the past three years, United Way’s 15 partner agencies are receiving 2007 allocations based on the “A” level (top level) budget. Board President John Little stated “due to the outstanding support of our community, we are pleased that some additional funds were available to help address our local human service needs.”

Programs selected receive funding are: Youth and Family Services, $1600 for computer notebooks; Girls Scouts $2800 to help fund a Girl Scout program; Salvation Army, $3000 for their new transitional living program; Southern Heights Mentoring Program, $2500; and Enid Metro Commission for their Forty Developmental Assets Committee, $5000;

Also: Enid Public Schools, $27,112 for an interim class to assist students to graduate or be promoted with their class; Garfield County Child Advocacy Council, $1500 for a copier; Sandbox Learning Center, $7000 to provide age appropriate play slots for their child care program; YWCA, $2500 to upgrade child care equipment so that they can receive national accreditation; Girl Scouts, $4000 to actively recruit Hispanic girls for girl scouting; Salvation Army, $2500 so low-income youth and adults can attend values-oriented summer camp; American Red Cross, $1600 for specialized training equipment; and Sandbox Learning Center, $2500 so they can expand their infant care program.
