Enrollment open for PEGASYS summer camp

Enrollment is open for the fifth annual PEGASYS summer camp June 2-7.

Summer camp is an educational opportunity aimed at students ages 12-17. It will include 40 hours of intensive hands-on training covering all aspects of television production, said Wendy Quarles, executive director of Enid’s public-access television station. As a final project, students will produce a video that will air on Suddenlink Cable channel 11 during the summer.

“By the end of the week, each student will be able to include television producer on his or her resume. This will be a great learning experience, and they’ll have a lot of fun,” Quarles said.

Students will experience a basic camera session and on -location camera practice. During the week they also will learn basic program planning, interviewing, lighting, audio and studio production, editing and dubbing. Each student will make a keepsake copy of the project. At the end of camp, each student will receive a certificate of membership in PEGASYS and community producer card, enabling them to check out equipment and use the PEGASYS facilities free for a year.

Daily sessions will be noon to 5 p.m. June 2 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 3-6. Awards ceremony will be 1-3 p.m. June 7.

Applications are now open on a first-come, first-served basis. Enrollment is limited to 10 students. Costs of the camp is $150 per person, but thanks to donations, camp will cost about $75 per student, Quarles said. A non-refundable registration fee of $25 must accompany each application, and students must bring their own lunches each day. Drinks and snacks will be provided.

Sponsors still are needed, Quarles said. Sponsorships are used to defray the cost of camp and provide snacks, instructional materials, camp shirts and awards. Anyone interested in sponsoring should contact Stephanie Wnetrzak, PEGASYS public relations coordinator, at 237-0099.
