Saturday is supposed to be a big day for Park Avenue Thrift and for PEGASYS, but it may be a little dimmer now.
A trailer containing some items donated to PEGASYS for sale at Park Avenue Thrift has been stolen. A white, single-axle trailer with black fenders was taken from behind Park Avenue Thrift sometime Friday night, said Paula Nightengale, director.
The trailer was parked and chained to a utility pole near the south door of the thrift store. The trailer, which was borrowed from Park Avenue supporter Don Colby, was closed and padlocked. Nightengale said she last saw the trailer Friday when she left the store and noticed it missing when she arrived for work Saturday morning.
Enid police are investigating. The trailer had been totally full of donated items earlier in the day, but Nightengale said it had been worked through and marked by employees and was about half full when it was stolen.
“We borrowed the trailer from a friend of Park Avenue Thrift to use because PEGASYS is having a garage sale and we wanted to keep their items separate and mark them,” Night-engale said. “It’s been there since Wednesday and Friday someone stole it.”
Nightengale is upset be-cause of the theft and also be-cause Park Avenue Thrift will have to pay for the trailer. The PEGASYS garage sale is in conjunction with Park Avenue’s The Price is Right sale Saturday. Those who donate to PEGASYS between now and then will have a chance for their name to be drawn to be a contestant Saturday.
David Hume, chairman of the Park Avenue Thrift board said it is the first theft they have had.
“Sometimes when people leave donations here when we’re not open, people will cull through it and scatter it down the alley, but surprisingly this is the first time we’ve had anything point blank stolen,” Hume said.
Nightengale hopes there is a way to at least find the trailer, although she said it may no longer be in the state.
“We will have fun Saturday, but it will be dampered now,” she said.
