Seiger posts first career win in limited modified

By Cheryl Licklider, Commentary

Damon Seiger was on cloud nine after he posted his first career win aboard his Dunsworth Machine limited modified in racing action at Enid Speedway Park Saturday night.

“I feel great,” said Seiger. “The track was really smooth on top and my car handled real well.”

Seiger came off the outside pole and headed up the competitive field. He steadily marched away and had a strong lead when Travis Johnson drifted off the top of turn four and came to a rest in front of the grandstands, putting the race under caution in lap eight.

Seiger pulled away when the race went green and had a straightaway advantage when Jason Gerhard spun in turn one and brought the yellow flag back out at the race’s midpoint.

Seiger showed the way with Todd Decker in hot pursuit. It was a drag race for several laps, but Seiger held the preferred line to take the win.

Decker settled for second, trailed by Johnnie Rauschenberg, Scott Parli and Kevin Snow.

Persistence paid off for Dusty Robbins as he pulled out all the stops and piloted his Herring Services/Michael’s Welding Kraft chassis to victory lane in the modified “A” feature.

“The track was awesome tonight, you couldn’t ask for a better track,” said Robbins. “I just put the hammer down.”

Robbins showed the way and set up over a straightaway advantage in less than three laps, but all that effort was for naught as Brendon Gemmill spun to a halt and put the track under caution.

Robbins picked up where he left off on the restart, only to see another yellow flag wave when Greg Burt blew his motor on the back straight two laps later. The third restart was a charm for Robbins as he sailed away from the field and, despite a late race challenge by Randy Timms, drove his Dunsworth Machine-powered ride to the win.

Timms held onto second, with Jon Herring Jr., Mickey Lassiter and Gemmill rounding out the top five.

Travis Johnson dominated in street stock with a brilliant victory run aboard his BB Machine/Big O Tires-sponsored ride.

“This was our first time back in this car and it ran real good,” said Johnson.

Dustin “Hollywood” Allen exploded off the outside pole, but his glory was short as Johnson took command of the track in turn four.

Johnson boasted a straightaway advantage in a mere lap and, with a clear track in front of him, was unstoppable on his path to the winner’s circle. Allen settled for second, trailed by James Lott, J.D. Choate and Ryan Bohnstedt.

Choate found track conditions to his liking as he drove his C&C Race Supply/IES Raglin-sponsored car to his first feature win of the year.

“The track was great,” said Choate. “I have to thank Dustin McNamara for letting me run his motor and Dustin Choate for helping with the car.”

Choate powered his ride off the outside pole and sported nearly a 10-car length lead when a yellow flag flew two laps later after Ronnie Ramer lost his drive shaft on the track.

Choate continued his run when the race went green and took nearly half a lap lead to the line.

David Fisher marched through the field to capture second, followed by Joe Bohnstedt, Milt David and Wayne Gibson.

James Goldman Jr. continued his reign over pure stock as he put his Kootz Racing-sponsored Chevy in the winner’s circle for the second week in a row.

“Tony Bruno, Marty Lawson and John Hobson Jr. did a great job of getting the car ready,” said Goldman.

Goldman rushed off the outside pole and was never challenged on his path to the checkered flag. Korey Vendetti posted second, trailed by Lonny Wilson and Earl Hanson.

Heat winners in modified were Herring and Alan Chickering.

Johnson, Walter O’Dell III and Parli won their heats in limited modified, with Johnson posting the win in street stock.

Factory stock heat winners were Choate and Bohnstedt, with Goldman taking the honors in pure stock.

Enid Speedway Park’s next card of racing will be 7 p.m. Saturday.
