PEGASYS set to add 2 new shows

By Robert Barron, Staff Writer

Cooking and an underwater video series are two new programs starting on PEGASYS, Enid’s public-access television channel.

“We are excited to introduce some new, unique programming to Enid,” said Wendy Quarles, PEGASYS executive director. “Our local producers have worked hard to find material that will add some variety to our current lineup, and hopefully be interesting to a new group of viewers.”

The spring lineup of new programs includes “Grill Dog,” an in-depth look at back yard grilling. Episodes show viewers, with a comic look, how to grill and sometimes how not to grill. The program introduces viewers to colorful characters who demonstrate how to grill. Audiences learn about indirect cooking in the first episode. Future subjects will include pasta, sushi, portobello mushrooms, shishkabobs, ice cream, eggs, wine, meats and other topics, all done in a colorful manner, said Stephanie Wnetrzak, of PEGASYS. “Grilldog” is showing 8:30 p.m. Mondays and 9 p.m. Fridays on channel 11.

“Sea Inside: Pacific Northwest” also is new on PEGASYS. The underwater video series takes viewers to meet undersea species who live in the waters of the Pacific Northwest. The program features colors and contrasts and cold water creatures that are seldom seen on television, some looking like outer space creatures, Wnetrzak said.

They are part of the same ecosystem, and the program is designed to remind viewers we all share the same fate. The program is shown 3:30 p.m. Sundays and 10 p.m. Wednesdays on channel 11.

Mike Honigsberg, director of Enid and Garfield County Emergency Management, is back this storm season with a regular program, “Emergency Management Update,” at 8 p.m. Tuesdays and 3 p.m. Thursdays. Honigsberg will discuss new improvements in Garfield County as well as the new Via Radio emergency warning system.

Also starting this month is the “Good Grief” series sponsored by Senior Life Network and Northwest Oklahoma Osteopathic Foundation. Each episode covers topics surrounding funeral planning and end-of-life issues, such as hospice care and organ donation, funeral arrangements and planning a funeral service. The series airs 6 p.m. Mondays and 5:30 p.m. Fridays on channel 11.

Additional new programming will include Sunday worship services at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Those will air 9 p.m. Tuesdays and 3:30 p.m. Thursdays on channel 11. “Monster Model Madness” is scheduled at 11:30 p.m. Wednesdays on channel 11 and the “News at Noon” airs at noon weekdays on channel 12.

Future programming includes a woodworking program, which will give tips and ideas from area woodworkers, and a children’s story time with interactive songs and games.

Quarles said anyone with an idea for a show is encouraged to call 237-0099 or stop by the studios at 123 W. Maine.
