Corvettes, and more Corvettes

More than 100 Corvettes were at the 15th annual Corvette Expo at Chisholm Trail Expo Center Saturday.

Revelers of one of Chevrolet’s most storied cars gathered and celebrated the six generations of vehicles gathered at the event.

Admission was $3 for adults, $1 for kids, and most of the money raised during the show will go to Youth & Family Services building fund, coordinator Chuck Pritchett said.

“That was our charity last year, and we’re continuing to sponsor it,” he said.

The show, sponsored by Northcutt Chevrolet, also featured vendors and a silent auction, with items donated by area businesses and individuals.

“We had more than 60 contributors this year,” Pritchett said.

Four members of Atomic City Corvettes club drove 633 miles from Los Alamos, N.M., beating the recent storms by arriving Thursday night.

Tom Nolen, activities director for the Los Alamos club, said this was not the first time for most of his club to enter the Enid show.

“This is my third year at the Enid show,” Nolen said, who entered a 1993 coupe in the show.

Mike Luna, who drove his 1994 coupe the more than 600 miles, said he visits many Corvette shows, and Enid’s is one of the best.

“I go to a fair amount of Corvette shows,” Luna said. “This show has got the friendliest people I’ve met.

“This is one of the better car shows I’ve been to.”

Don Mikkleson, who was attending his fourth Enid show, agreed.

“It’s a fun show. There are really nice people here,” he said. “People will stop and talk about their cars and talk about yours.”

Mikkleson arrived in his 2003 50th anniversary edition coupe with Indy Pace Car stripes.

“It’s a six-speed,” he said. “It’s a real Corvette.”

Pritchett said the Enid club has 61 members and continues to grow.

“We get new members monthly,” he said.
